Nice Work from Newwork

Newwork is a graphic design studio based in Brooklyn, with a strong focus on fashion branding. Their use of typography and photography is simple, yet very sophisticated. They also have a biannually 32" x 23" arts publication called Newwork Magazine. Each issue features new work from a wide range of artists and creators in the worlds of fine art, design, high fashion, culture, and politics.

The Power Of A Smile

While attending the Art Directors Club 88th Annual Award last week, they've presented some really nice and inspirational pieces. One of my favorite was a series of ads for Crest, created by Saatchi & Saatchi NY. Who was awarded Advertising Broadcast Gold for television & cinema for their brilliant work. People like to laugh and these days with all the social media happening, humor is an excellent way to have people talk about a brand and share a funny clip.

Everybody Dance Now

Yesterday I went to the AIGA exhibition entitled 20 Years of Dancing in Print. It was held at AIGA National Design Center at 164 fifth avenue in New York. The exhibition is showcasing the award-winning visual and performing arts publications Dance Ink (1989-1996) and 2twice (1997-ongoing). It was very interesting to see all the different trends in terms of layout design, typography and photography through 20 years. I particularly liked the type treatment and branding of Everybody Dance Now created by Peter Bilak (founder of Typotheque). Bravo!

Got A Thing For This Video

Here's a great video for a great song from UK band Metronomy. This clip was designed by Megaforce from the production company El Nino who have also produced videos for Madonna, Kanye West, Nike and many more. I could have posted any other work from their website, but I just love that song!

Christian Faur

Christian Faur's art is complex and almost mathematical. Creating photo-realistic artworks only using paper and crayons. But unlike many other artists, he uses them as objects and doesn't mix the two. He also meticulously created a color alphabet, no letters just colors. Very creative and a lot to be inspired from.

Inspiration Fix

Tiger is an online screen magazine founded in 2000 by Takeshi Hamada. This is what I love about experimental projects on the web, they're not there to make money, just to inspire. Design with no boundaries and no clients. Although it is supposedly still up and running, they didn't release any issues since September 2007. Though true creativity never goes out-dated, I hope this project continues.

All Day I Dream About Sneakers

All Day I Dream About Sneakers is a collaborative project from adidas Originals and Lifelounge, inspired by the brand’s avid creeds of ‘Impossible Is Nothing’ and ‘Celebrate Originality’. The project showcases the story and kicks created by the world’s original sneaker freak, Herr Fritz Träumer – a mythical and enigmatic sneaker designer who dedicated his lifetime constructing the most original range of sneakers ever seen.
